The STSN
Continuing Education Program
A primary mission of STSN is to support quality services through continuing education. To fulfill that mission, the STSN Continuing Education committee will be following a 3-stage process to develop a robust program of continuing education opportunities. The program will begin with a system of Professional Development Units (PDUs) and grow over the next 3 years into a system of providing, granting and tracking Continuing Education Units (CEUs).The first stage of the process will focus on increasing the number of continuing education opportunities that are available. The first stage will also include a system for recognizing those STSN members who do engage in professional development activities through their own initiative. This recognition system will be grant Professional Development Units (PDUs). See more details of the PDU system below.
The second stage of the STSN continuing education development process will continue to focus on making high-quality continuing education opportunities widely available. On-line, password-protected transcripts for STSN members will be developed in stage 2. Recording of PDU credits will be listed there.
In stage three, a formalized policy of required CEUs will be introduced. The number of CEUs required will be gradually increased over time, until a full-fledged, robust continuing education and CEU system is in place. Efforts will continue to focus on making high-quality continuing education opportunities widely available to all in the speech-to-text community.
