Darlene Pickard, Candidate for STSN Board Member

I have been providing CART services in multiple venues since 1994 and broadcast captioning since 2005.  I have attended the WNCAP conference and presented on CART.  I have attained national CART and captioning certification.

 

What issues do you see as being most relevant to STSN members?

1.  We are all working to best serve the needs of our consumers.  I'd like all members and providers to get as much information as possible about the jobs each other do, how we do it (similarities and differences) and how to best meet the individual requirements of the people we work with.

2.  I would like all methods of Speech-to-Text to establish some way to ensure that only qualified providers be sent on jobs with our consumers.  I'm not clear whether that means mandatory certifications, but I'd like to have the conversation.

 

Please indicate goals that you would have for the organization that relate to your role in this position.

1.  I would like to see STSN support the promotion of Speech-to-Text services in a way that clearly delineates to our clients, the Deaf and HoH consumers, the similarities and differences between all methods of delivery so that they can most effectively select the service that best meets their communication access needs.

2.  I would like to help bridge the relationship between CART and other services so that we better understand each others jobs.  We are all working to serve the needs of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
